About Ayurveda Massage Ayurveda, the name given to the ancient Indian science
of life, is said to have originated 4000 years ago, and is believed to be the oldest health system known to man today. Rather
than treating symptoms, it treats the whole person, working holistically, combining nutrition, herbal remedies, yoga and massage.
It is a multifaceted system, but in its’ simplest form, it is designed to benefit the client on an emotional,
psychological and medical level. It will revolutionise not only what you eat, but when; it will change your lifestyle patterns,
depending on the season; it will recognise your dominant body type of either vata, pita or kapha (tri-Dosha) and prescribe
treatments specific to your individual needs.
Massage is an important part of Ayurvedic therapy, but rather than concentrating
on Western techniques that manipulate body contour, it works on the marma points, opening up ‘energy’ channels
which are believed to cause an imbalance or blockage. It also uses herbal remedies to combat ailments, which are traditionally
treated in the West with prescription medicine.

is the concept of the three 'doshas' (tri-Dosha), the vital energies that make up each body type. Assessing the balance of
these energies allows the practitioner to suggest the most appropriate treatment.
